Maricaban Island (Tingloy)
Maricaban Island (locally known as Tingloy) is a town part of Batangas Province. Located at the south of Mabini, it is famous because of beautiful beaches and dive sites all around the island.
Last March 31, 2007, we headed to this island for our summer beachineering getaway. It's been almost 6 months since our last climb and been waiting for this. With Xaru, Yamet, Ginky, Carmela, Gilbert and Jomar (without my wife Vangie which is 5 months pregnant), we ride a jeep bound to Mabini - Anilao Pier then a boat to Tingloy. Tingloy is the capital of the whole island. To get to Brgy. Masasa (where we are going), we ride a tricycle traversing the other side of the island. The sun is up and extremely hot so we waited underneath the trees for it to set in the ocean. We pitch our tent near the Villa Rosales Resort. Water source in the area are from deep well and around 15 minutes of walk fron the beach. We try to ascend the nearby mountain called Mag-asawang Bato. it has the fantastic view of the Island as well as the Gulugod Baboy of Mabini. The beach is calm and relaxing since we dip in after our dinner.
According to Yamet, so much have been change in the beach since her last visit. Since there are many people now flocking the area and no group or organization maintaining it, the impact in the environment goes up. Garbage are everywhere, in the trees, rocks, sands. Since no one is maintainig it, it is part of us (we the traveller) to implement our creed. "Take nothing but Pictures, Leave nothing but Footprints, Kill nothing but Time".
